Rocking Robin

Christmas is nearly upon us so my decoration making has started in earnest.  I always like to have a few new homemade cuties to add to my tree this year and for 2017 it’s going to be a couple of these robins.

Materials Needed

  • Double knit yarn in Red, Brown, Black and Yellow        (I prefer cotton)
  • 3.5mm hook
  • Small amount of stuffing
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

 

Stitches Used

  • mc – magic circle
  • ss – slip stitch
  • ch – chain
  • st – stitch
  • dc – double crochet
  • htr – half treble
  • tr – treble
  • dc2tog – double crochet two together (decrease)

Body starting from the top down

Using brown double knit cotton and a 3.5mm hook make a mc or 2 ch

Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round and move it up the rounds as you work.

Rnd 1: work 6dc into the mc or the 2nd ch from hook [6]

Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around [12]

Rnd 3: 2 dc in first st, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st*. Repeat from * to * until end of round. [18]

Rnd 4-7: dc in each st around [18]

Rnd 8(and wings): dc in next 4 st, *ss into next st, ch 4, htr into 2nd ch from hook, tr in next 2 ch, ss back into original st* dc in next 8 st, repeat from * to * for next wing, dc in next 4 st. SS to first st. [18 excluding wings] Fasten off

Rnd 9: Using red yarn, dc in each st around [18]

When you get to the wings, make sure you do a dc on either side of it.

Rnd 10: *2 dc in next st, dc in next 8 st* repeat from * to * again. [20]IMG_0249

Rnd 11: *2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 st* repeat from * to * to end [24]

Rnd 12-13: dc in each st around [24]

Start stuffing

Rnd 14: *dc2tog, dc in next 4 st* repeat from * to * till end [20]

Rnd 15: *dc2tog, dc in next 3 st* repeat from * to * till end [16]

Rnd 16: *dc2tog, dc in next 2 st* repeat from * to * till end [12]

Rnd 17: *dc2tog, dc in next st* repeat from * to * till end [8]

Rnd 18: *dc2tog in each st around* repeat from * to * till end [4] Fasten off and pass the yarn through each stitch pulling tight.

Beak

Using yellow or orange double knit attach in centre stitch on the last brown round between the wings.

Ch 1, tr, ch 1, ss into same stitch. Fasten off.

To make up

Using black embroider eyes

Take in all ends
